Text AB followed by your account nickname to 3993, and Standard Chartered UAE replies with that account’s balance. If your nickname is AED1, the message is “AB AED1”. It works without data, but only after you’ve set the nickname in Online Banking.
The SC Mobile app can also show your balance on the welcome screen without logging in at all, once you switch that feature on.

Check your balance by SMS
Set an account nickname first
SMS Banking identifies accounts by a nickname, not by account number:
- Log in to Online Banking.
- Open the SMS Banking & Alerts section.
- Set any 4-character nickname for your bank account. It can be letters, numbers or a mix, such as AED1 or SAV2.
Credit cards don’t need this. Their nickname is the last 4 digits of the card by default.
Send the SMS
From your registered mobile number, send one of these to 3993:
| What you want | Format | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Account balance | AB nickname | AB AED1 |
| Last 5 account transactions | MS nickname | MS AED1 |
| Cheque book request | CB nickname | CB AED1 |
| Last 5 credit card transactions | FT last 4 card digits | FT 6789 |
| Credit card outstanding balance | OB last 4 card digits | OB 6789 |
| Help | HL | HL |
| Unsubscribe | UNSUB | UNSUB |
Registering for SMS Banking also registers you for SMS alerts automatically. Those alerts cover ATM withdrawals, card payments, account balance, salary credits, bounced cheques and modified fund transfers, so your salary credit arrives as a message without you asking.
Balance on the app’s welcome screen
The SC Mobile app can show balances and recent transactions before you log in:
- On the welcome screen, tap balances or transactions to register.
- Set a lock screen password on your phone first, which Standard Chartered recommends.
- Log in and accept the terms to activate the feature.
- Enter the OTP to finish.
Your account number stays masked on the welcome screen, showing only the last 4 digits. If you don’t activate the feature, you just log in as normal to see your balance.
In the app or Online Banking
- Log in to Online Banking or the SC Mobile app.
- All your accounts are listed on the home page.
- Select an account to view its details and history, filter by date, and download or print transactions.
Online Banking also covers savings, current, term deposit, loan and credit card accounts, and Global Link can show selected Standard Chartered accounts in up to 5 countries.
Get a balance confirmation letter
Embassies and some employers want a stamped letter rather than a statement. In Online Banking:
- Open the menu and select Help and Services.
- Choose Balance Confirmation Letter under Account Management.
- Pick the account, fill in the details and read the notes.
- Submit and approve the SC Mobile Key prompt in the app.
By phone
Personal Banking is on 600 5222 88, or +971 600 5222 88 from abroad, 24 hours a day. Priority Banking customers call 800 4949, or +971 4 403 9639 from overseas.
If the SMS doesn’t work
- No reply. Check you’re texting from the mobile number registered with the bank, and that you’ve registered for SMS Banking.
- Wrong account. The nickname in your message must match the one set in Online Banking exactly.
- Credit card balance needed. Use OB with the card’s last 4 digits, not AB.
- Salary not shown. No salary credit alert usually means the money hasn’t reached the bank. A salary not received in the UAE case follows a set MOHRE process.
