Someone abroad wants to pay you, and their bank’s form asks for a SWIFT or BIC code. For Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, enter ABDIAEAD. If the form insists on 11 characters, use ABDIAEADXXX, the version ADIB itself prints on its corporate forms.
That one code covers every ADIB personal and business account in the UAE. The part that actually decides whether the money reaches you is the IBAN, so most of this page is about getting that right.

How ABDIAEAD breaks down
- ABDI: the bank code for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank
- AE: the United Arab Emirates
- AD: the location code
- XXX: the head office branch block, which is why the 8- and 11-character versions reach the same place
There’s no separate SWIFT code for an ADIB branch in Dubai, Sharjah or Al Ain when you’re receiving a personal transfer. The branch is irrelevant once the IBAN is on the payment.
Getting your ADIB IBAN
Your ADIB IBAN is 23 characters long and starts with AE. Three ways to get it:
- ADIB’s IBAN checker. Enter your 8-digit ADIB account number or your 16-digit ADIB card number and it generates the IBAN.
- SMS banking. If you’re registered for ADIB SMS banking, text IBAN to 2400 from your registered local number. It works for AED and foreign currency accounts. Your mobile operator’s SMS charges apply.
- The ADIB Mobile Banking app, under the account’s details, or your account statement.
The 8-digit account number on its own isn’t enough for a payer abroad. Send the full IBAN, written without spaces when you paste it into a form.
ABDIAEAD is not DIB’s code
ADIB and Dubai Islamic Bank are different banks with different codes. A Dubai Islamic Bank account takes the Dubai Islamic Bank SWIFT code, not ABDIAEAD. The fastest check is the bank code inside your IBAN: 050 is ADIB.
Charges, timing & what you receive
ADIB doesn’t control what you lose to fees on an incoming payment. The sender does, through the charge option they pick:
- OUR: the sender pays all charges and you get the full amount.
- SHA: charges are shared, so a deduction on your side is normal.
- BEN: you pay every charge along the route, including any correspondent bank in the middle.
Ask for OUR if you’re being paid a fixed invoice amount or a deposit. Most international transfers into UAE accounts arrive within 4 working days, and transfers between UAE banks within 2 working days. A payment sent from abroad late on a Friday usually won’t move until the next working day in both countries.
If the transfer hasn’t arrived
- Ask the sender for the MT103, the SWIFT confirmation their bank produced. It shows the date, amount and the receiving bank code.
- Check that the receiving bank reads ABDIAEAD and that the beneficiary field carries your full IBAN with no swapped digits.
- If both are right and 4 working days have passed, call ADIB on 600 543 216 (+971 2 6100600 from abroad). The line is open 24/7.
- If the code or IBAN is wrong, the sender’s bank has to amend or recall the payment. ADIB can’t pull back money it never received.
A MT103 SWIFT copy is what ADIB will ask for first, so get it before you call.
Watch for fake “ADIB” messages
Transfer scams often start with an SMS saying a payment is “on hold” until you confirm card details. ADIB sends SMS messages only from the ADIB and AD-ADIB sender IDs, and the bank asks customers to check anything suspicious by calling 600 543 216. Report fraud, or a lost or stolen card, on 02 6100116, open 24/7.
Your IBAN and SWIFT code are safe to share. Your card number, PIN and one-time passwords never are, whatever reason a caller gives.
FAQ
What is the SWIFT code of ADIB in Abu Dhabi?
ABDIAEAD. It’s the same for Abu Dhabi, Dubai and every other emirate. ABDIAEADXXX is the 11-character form.
Does ADIB have a different SWIFT code for Islamic & business accounts?
No. ADIB is an Islamic bank throughout, and personal and business accounts both receive international transfers on ABDIAEAD.
How many digits is an ADIB IBAN?
23 characters: AE, two check digits, the bank code 050, then 16 digits for the account.
Can I get my ADIB IBAN by SMS?
Yes, if you’re registered for ADIB SMS banking. Text IBAN to 2400 from your registered UAE mobile number.
Is the ADIB SWIFT code the same as the BIC?
Yes. BIC is the formal name of the code, and SWIFT is the network that carries the payment. A form asking for either one wants ABDIAEAD.
Before you share your ADIB details
- Generate your IBAN with the IBAN checker or copy it from the app, rather than typing it.
- Send the payer ABDIAEAD, the bank name, the address and your IBAN together in one message.
- Ask for OUR charges when the exact amount matters.
- Keep the MT103 until the money shows in your account.
Codes for the other UAE banks are on the UAE bank SWIFT codes list.
