CBI SWIFT code

CBI SWIFT Code: CLBIAEAD, IBAN Generator & Transfer Details

Commercial Bank International’s SWIFT code is CLBIAEAD. Give that to anyone sending you money from abroad. If their form wants 11 characters, use CLBIAEADXXX, which points to the same head office.

CBI is easy to mix up with CBD (Commercial Bank of Dubai), so check the letters: C-L-B-I, then AE for the UAE.

CLBIAEAD vs CBD’s code

The two banks sound alike and both appear on UAE payment forms:

  • CBI, Commercial Bank International: CLBIAEAD, IBAN bank code 022
  • CBD, Commercial Bank of Dubai: a different SWIFT code and a different IBAN bank code

A payment with CBI’s SWIFT code and a CBD IBAN, or the other way round, won’t credit. If you bank with CBD, use the CBD SWIFT code instead. The quickest test is characters 5 to 7 of your IBAN: 022 means CBI.

Get your CBI IBAN first

The SWIFT code only finds the bank. Your IBAN finds your account, and a payer abroad needs both.

  1. Enter your CBI account number in the CBI IBAN generator and it returns your IBAN.
  2. Or log in to CBI internet banking and open My Account, where the IBAN is shown.

Type the account number carefully in the generator. CBI warns that a wrong account number produces a wrong IBAN, and the bank isn’t liable for losses from one. Copying it from internet banking avoids that risk.

Who pays the fees

The sender chooses the charge option, and it decides how much reaches your CBI account:

Option Who pays What you receive
OUR The sender pays everything The full amount
SHA Shared The amount minus charges after the sender’s bank
BEN You pay everything The amount minus all charges, including intermediaries

Ask for OUR when you need an exact figure, such as a rent deposit or an invoice settlement.

Timing

Most international transfers into UAE accounts arrive within 4 working days. Transfers between UAE banks usually take up to 2 working days. Weekends and public holidays in either country add to that.

If the money hasn’t arrived

  1. Ask the sender for the MT103 SWIFT copy or payment confirmation from their bank.
  2. Check that the receiving bank code reads CLBIAEAD and that your full IBAN is in the beneficiary field.
  3. If both are right and 4 working days have passed, call CBI on 600 544440, or +971 4 5039000 from outside the UAE, with the confirmation ready.
  4. If the code or IBAN is wrong, only the sender’s bank can amend or recall the payment.

  • Send CLBIAEAD, the bank name and your IBAN in one message.
  • Ask the payer to choose OUR if the amount must arrive in full.
  • Keep the payment confirmation until the money is in your account.
